Scholarship Coverage:

Stanford University Scholarships provide the recipient with the following benefits:

  1. A travel stipend intended to cover an economy-class ticket for one annual trip to and from Stanford.
  2. A stipend for living and academic expenses (covering room and board, books, academic supplies, instructional materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses).

Eligibility Criteria for Stanford University Scholarships

To qualify for Stanford University Scholarships, the following eligibility criteria apply:

  • Required Languages: English
  • Eligible Countries: All countries worldwide can apply for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program.
  • First/Bachelor’s degree received in 2015 or Later; for enrolling in 2022: You are eligible to apply if you apply within four years and enroll within five years after earning your first/bachelor’s degree.
  • Mental Sharpness: You must demonstrate first-step mental sharpness, seek out knowledge and new experiences, be full of original ideas, make sense of ambiguous situations, and be able to hold a contrarian or dissenting point of view.
  • Complete Application Process: You must complete not only your Knight-Hennessy Scholars application but also the entire application process, including any standardized test that your graduate degree program requires (GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc.) and, if needed, an English proficiency test.
  • Ambitious and Driven: You must be ambitious in the best sense of the word, driven to improve yourself, willing to take risks, self-aware, persistent, able to bounce back from adversity, personally humble and kind, inclusive, respectful of differences, concerned for and helpful to others, and low ego.
  • Fluency in English: You must be fluent in English—listening, reading, speaking, and writing—to study at Stanford. The minimum TOEFL score for most graduate programs at Stanford is 100 iBT or 600 PBT. All Stanford graduate degree programs accept the TOEFL, and the MBA Program also accepts the IELTS and PTE.   • Application to Stanford Graduate Program: First, in addition to applying to Knight-Hennessy Scholars, you must apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program. Each incoming Knight-Hennessy Scholar must be a newly enrolling student in a Stanford graduate program, including but not limited to DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MPP, MS, or PhD programs. There are no quotas by discipline or program. Note that priority consideration will be given to those who will spend at least two years studying at Stanford.

How to Apply for Stanford University Scholarships?

Follow these application instructions to be considered for this scholarship:

  1. Create an Account:
    • Visit this link to create your account and initiate your online application.
  2. Complete Online Application for Admission:
    • Fill out and submit the online application for admission.
    • Provide personal and academic information, along with details about your activities and interests.
    • The application will ask for basic biographic and demographic details.

3. Submit the Following Documents:

  • Provide a report of your grades in college and, if applicable, graduate school. You can use your unofficial or self-reported transcript for each school you attended for a year or more. If you can’t provide this, you can use the self-reported transcript template available for download. Make sure your transcript, if applicable, mentions the degree you received and the date you got it. If you studied abroad and those credits are on your transcript, you don’t need separate transcripts for those experiences.
  • Include a resume that talks about your school, personal, and work history. Your resume should be one page for every ten years since high school.
  • Get two people to write recommendation letters for you. Find more information here.
  • Write an essay with a total of up to 1,750 words. Answer these questions:
    • Connect the dots: Explain how the people and events in your life have influenced who you are.
    • Pursue your calling: Describe how you plan to follow your life’s purpose and how Stanford and the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program will help.
  • Answer two short questions: Tell us eight interesting things about you that people wouldn’t expect. List three goals you are working toward right now. (Getting into Stanford or becoming a Knight-Hennessy Scholar can’t be one of these goals.)
  • Create a video that’s no longer than two minutes. If you only need 30 seconds, that’s okay. You’re not obligated to speak for the full time.
  • Attend an in-person assessment.
